šø May at Legacy: Joyful Moments, Creative Minds, and the Comfort of Home
Hi Legacy Families,
As May comes to a close, we wanted to take time and send out our first Legacy Newsletter. This has been something important to us and we are finally to a point where we are ready to publish. Our mission it to improve the aging experience for families and we want to improve our communications with families to share beautiful moments that fill our homes daily, but also insight into how we design the care to empower both families and our residents. We donāt intend for this to be one way communication. Many of you follow us on Social media and you will see some of these highlights out there: Legacy Senior Living. We love to see your support, comments and feedback on those platforms. However, we will also share links where you can let us know when you see opportunities at our homes so we can continue to improve our offerings and deliver on our mission.
Below we are excited to share our May moments from blooming flower arrangements to lively domino games and expressive painting sessions, itās been a month full of laughter, connection, and creativity.
šø Flower Arranging ā Blooming Life at Legacy
This month, we invited our residents to pick their favorite flowers and create arrangements for their rooms. They carefully selected each bloom, added them to their vase, and proudly placed them in their personal spaces.
We love this activity because it focuses on multiple senses, smell, sight, and kinesthetic. This helps promote and encourage autonomy and continues stimulation of the brain with hand eye activities.
š¬ Dominoes Fun ā Building Family Through Play
Game time is always a hit at Legacyāand dominoes continues to be a favorite. Itās not just fun; itās meaningful. These games challenge the brain, spark joy, and encourage social connection.
Every human needs connection. Through laughter and play, our residents build friendships and a sense of family within our home. That kind of bond makes all the difference.
šØ Painting ā Art from the Heart
Thereās no right or wrong when it comes to painting here at Legacy. We give each resident the freedom to paint what their heart desiresāand we love every piece.
Itās incredible to see how creative, expressive, and joyful these sessions are. The room comes alive with color, conversation, and calm. The results are always beautifulābut even more beautiful is what it brings out in each person.
Love doesnāt ageāit grows deeper with time. š
At Legacy, weāre honored to care for couples whoāve shared a lifetime together. Whether itās holding hands at breakfast, reminiscing over old stories, or simply sitting side by side in peace, their connection brings warmth to our home.
We support every residentās unique journeyāand for our couples, that means staying together in comfort, with the care and dignity they deserve. Because home is wherever youāre with the one you love. š”ā¤ļø
Building Smiles, One Beach Ball at a Time šāļø
Thereās no right or wrong way to play here at Legacy. During our beach ball game, everyone joins in at their own paceāand every smile, every laugh, every bounce matters.
What looks like a simple activity actually builds hand-eye coordination, encourages gentle movement, and sparks connection. But the most beautiful part? The joy it brings out in each person. The room fills with energy, laughter, and togethernessāand thatās what truly makes this place feel like home.
š Why These Activities Matter
At Legacy, every activity is more than just something to fill the timeāitās a chance to empower, bring life, connection, and purpose into our residentsā day.
We carefully design each experience to support the whole personāmind, body, and spirit. Activities like flower arranging, painting, and playing games arenāt just enjoyableātheyāre rooted in real, research-backed benefits that promote healthy aging.
Hereās what weāre seeing and why itās important:
šæ Immediate Benefits You Can See and Feel
Better sleep quality ā Engaged days lead to restful nights.
Lower anxiety and stress ā Gentle, creative, and social activities provide calm and joy.
Improved mood and relaxation ā Residents often express how peaceful and uplifted they feel after participating.
š§ Long-Term Benefits That Support Healthy Aging
Cognitive strength ā These activities help protect against memory loss and dementia by keeping the brain active and building what scientists call cognitive reserve.
Emotional well-being ā Reduces the risk of depression and promotes a positive outlook.
Physical health ā Encourages movement, fine motor coordination, and even improves balanceāimportant for fall prevention.
Independent living ā Keeps skills sharp and minds engaged so residents can enjoy daily life with more confidence and independence.
ā¤ļø Social Connection is Vital at Any Age
One of the most powerful benefits? Connection. Many older adults face feelings of isolation, especially when moving into a new environment. These group activities help build friendships, spark laughter, and create a sense of community.
Weāve seen residents who were once shy or quiet begin to open upāsharing stories, smiling more, and genuinely looking forward to their days.
At Legacy, this is what itās all about: building a home where our residents feel seen, valued, and loved.
Home Updates:
The team continues to invest in the outside landscaping, irrigation systems, and HVAC systems. We have installed sensors in 11 of the rooms and are working to ensure every room has a sensor to balance the temperature to the individual's preferences.
We also have purchased two additional computers helping empower our caregivers to spend more time with the residents and less time on reviewing check lists.
Over the summer we are planning to update the paint on the exterior and invest in the yards to patch the areas where the grass has stopped growing. We will continue to provide updates on the home and if there are any specific areas that you think could be improved we would love to hear from you.
